This is a rare blog post where I just type stuff.
First of all, happy new year! It’s nice to have a massive mental reset. Nothing is really different, but as with many things “life is neither good nor bad, but thinking makes it so.” So if you change your mind, it can change your life.
For the last year plus I’ve been drifting a bit with what I want to do next with my photography. I need to catch up on a backlog of work from the last year or two, and see what I’ve been doing and if it suggests a direction. I’d like to finalize my underwater series and publish a “complete set” at some point. I think I struggle with the idea that if I’m not shooting shooting shooting then I’m not doing anything, but I also KNOW I’ve been shooting just because I can (and because when beautiful models come through you have to carpe that diem; I like Phoenix but it’s a stopover, not a destination) and not with purpose.
So my three resolutions for my work this this are:
1 – Shoot with purpose
2 – Go through the last two years and find the gems I’ve neglected / missed
3 – Make work that means something (either to me or to someone who asks)
I encourage you all to do the same with life. Even a small change of mind can make a world of difference.
